Hands-on History Spring Break Camp is offered for three individual days during the Jeffco school district spring break.
Register for each day separately; sign up for one day or all three! HoH is designed to expose kids to different aspects of local history using three session themes. All activities take place at the Astor House Museum, Clear Creek History Park or the Golden History Center.
Learn how meals were prepared on a ranch in the 1800s. Campers will learn how to compost, plant a vegetable garden, and try to match an oxen’s strength in plowing. The 9-11 year olds also prepare a meal from start to finish on the woodstove.
Kids will spend the morning experiencing life at the Astor House Museum when it was a working boarding house. Check-in at the front desk, jump back to the 1890s and become one of the miners, students or pioneer families who needed a place to stay.
Take a journey through the history of Jolly Rancher, originally located right here in Golden on Washington Avenue. Kids will make three of Jolly Rancher's top products: ice cream, chocolate and the multi-flavor hard candy we recognize today.
Golden History Museums members at the family level or above receive a discount good for two family members during the spring of 2012. Memberships are available by calling 303-278-3557.
$30 non-member per day, $27 member per day.
A lunch period will take place from 11:30 – 12:00; please bring a sack lunch. Campers can be picked up at any point during this time.
All camp fee are non-refundable. If for any reason Golden History Museums cancels your session, you will receive a full refund, or, if you prefer, the opportunity to transfer to another session if space is available.
