Who should have housed the seat of government? Denver or Golden? This old and historic rivalry will be revived as community members get to voice their opinion. However you vote today might not be how you voted in 1867. Take a look at the issues, see where you stand and find out what party your 19th century self would vote.

Did you know that Seth Lake (the Astor House’s first proprietor) was notorious for playing pranks on April Fool’s Day? Come out to AHM for a fun day of Victorian-era games, activities and tricks in the spirit of Seth Lake. Figure out what is wrong in our historic boarding house and play some tricks on your friends and family.

Boarding houses like the Astor House served an important role as community gathering centers in the old West. Carrying on that tradition, GHM introduces “Freshly Brewed History,” a new spin on the traditional Astor House tea. Join us for delicious local coffees, gourmet breakfast pastries, and terrific conversation about Golden history. Our first guest speaker will be announced on February 1st.

10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Golden had a local blacksmith as early as 1859, so why stop now? Join the “smithies” at the Clear Creek History Park in our shop, and watch them craft metal into useful, everyday items.
Saturday, May 19
10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Event includes a pie-baking contest, where dozens of homemade pies will be competing for the blue ribbon and a $30 prize for 1st place overall.
The pie-baking contest will be judged by local personalities and you may get a chance to sample a pie at the event. To register and submit your pie, call Golden History Museums at 303-278-3557 or stop by 923 10thStreet and fill out a registration form.
There’s a new contest each hour, so stop by to test your skills at any of these exciting competitions. Activities include an egg toss, nail driving contest, ring toss, and sling shot target practice.

It’s time to play America’s favorite pastime with the original rules. Remember the days when baseball was played without gloves, the pitcher was called a hurler and the batter was called a striker? Of course not! So bring your family and friends and stop by the Clear Creek History Park to take the field and to learn how the game was played in the good old days.

Which is faster, a horse or an ox? A horse, of course. But the ox is stronger and more sure-footed. Settle the debates once and for all. Come out to the Clear Creek History Park to get your hands dirty as you learn about historic agriculture. Meet the animals and see if you could pull a harrow or a plow.
Saturday, August 11
10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The historic buildings at the Clear Creek History Park were once located in Golden Gate Canyon where residents know how to throw a party. Stop by on August 11th and try your hand, or should we say foot, at the slipper kick and see it you can knock over a target during the rolling pin toss competition. We’ll have plenty of activities all day long.
